The AMS Museum does not hold service records for individual
personnel. The only details we have are for officers who held a regular commission with the Army Medical Department and the RAMC until 1960. There are also some records for Veterinary Officers.
Service records for men and women discharged
prior to 1920 are held at The National Archives (www.nationalarchives.gov.uk). All other service
records are held at the Army Personnel Centre and copies of these records can
only be accessed by next-of-kin. The museum has a small booklet available with
useful advice for researching relatives who served with the AMS. Please

Q. Are you open to the public?
A. The AMS Museum is based at Keogh Barracks in Mytchett and is open to the public Monday to Friday, 10am to 3.30pm. However, there are some security arrangements regarding admission. Visitors can park outside the barracks and should then proceed to the main gate, where they will be issued with a pass and escorted to the museum (please bring some proof of identity). For visitors with mobility difficulties there is disabled parking within the barracks. Many visitors find the security checks part of the visitor experience and worth the slight inconvenience. Q. Do I have to pay to visit the museum?

There is no admission charge to visit the museum but donations are
always welcome. Gift aid forms available on request. [Back to Top]
Q. Are you open at weekends?
A. The museum will open at evenings and weekends for groups by appointment only.

Q. Can I take photographs?

For security reasons photography is not permitted on the

Q. Where can I get a cup of tea?
A. Unfortunately the museum does not have refreshment facilities. However, during the summer months we recommend the Tea Rooms at the Basingstoke Canal Centre, which are nearby. There is also a public house within walking distance of the barracks.

Q. Is there anything for children to do?
